Popular music, like all forms of the arts or fashion, has cycles. What maybe popular and in style one year is usually a variation of something from the years past. Take today's current climate of music hits. A few weeks ago, the 55th Annual Grammy Awards was held in Los Angels, and televised around the world. Many of the winners and musical performances were in the direction of a adult contemporary with either a injection of jazz or country. First off, congratulations to all of the nominees and the winners. We wish them all well, However...

After the show, I noticed that other folks on Facebook were complaining about a Grammy performer or two who sang out of key. Other's were saying that they were more excited to see some of the presenters than some of the artists who won a Grammy. To them, seeing Prince give a Grammy was the highlight of the night's star power.

Still others said that most of those winners were one hit wonders and their 15 minutes of fame was up last year. Many folks on the net joked about certain winners saying, "now they are somebody that I used to know" referring to the song by the Grammy Winner Gotye, who won two Grammys this year.

I could write an entire post just on all of the comments of others on social media after the Grammy Award Show but I only bring up the Grammy's blow back to introduce you to a rising talent.

To those of you who love Adult Contemporary but complained about the performers who sung out of key, lacked star power, or were a one hit wonder (they had one hit and you wonder who calls that song a "Hit"), you need to check out a talent from the St. Louis area, named Charlie Free.

Charlie Free's EP "Strings of My Emotions" is a fine piece of art which could have given any of the Grammy nominations a run for their money. She has star potential and I bet that she would never be caught singing out of key.

Charlie Free's lyrics on Strings of My Emotions are true to life. Her lyrics are open and vulnerable the way a true music artist should be. Making complex feelings or emotions simple.

On each song, her vocal presentation shows that she can successfully apply the many layers of harmony needed to create the soothing yet soul-fully warm sound which will help create her future success.

The acoustic guitar is  the driving force in the music with her vocal tone rounding out the edges of all of the other instruments. It is all arranged nicely into one soft gel of presentation which was mixed well and with thought.

"Tell it to the World" is my favorite song off of this music collection. This tune has it all: Fine music writing, Lyrics written well, smooth singing presentation, and a clean crisp clear recording and mix. One listen and you can hear why this song should be played on commercial radio.

"When I'm With You" VIDEO HERE is another examples of Charlie Free's bright musical future off of this EP.

"Beautiful You" is another one of my favorites. This song, like the others, seem personal yet the artist invites you in for a peek.

Strings of my emotions is a piece of art with a smooth coffee house blend of harmonizing vocals which cater to those with ears who enjoy the sounds of acoustic strings over electric amplification.

After listening to the EP Strings of My Emotions, I believe that Charlie Free has a chance of future success even though her current songs seem to capture today's trend in original popular music. It is my opinion that her current work is better then many of the "successful" original music artists of today. I believe that she will continue to evolve and continue to grow creativity to surpass today. She just seems to have that "something" that can't be taught, bottled, or bought. While her 15 minutes of fame is yet to come, I believe that she is on her way. She has plenty of time... after all Charlie Free is only 19 years old.
